Built for Samuel Andrew Jackson Evans (1816 – 1856) and his wife Sarah Jackson Evans by Henry Dillon in 1846.  This was the boyhood home of Admiral Robley Dunlingson Evans, hero of the Spanish American War and friend of President Theodore Roosevelt. Admiral Evans’ description of his early life in Floyd County is contained in the first of two autobiographies, A Sailor’s Log: Recollections of 40 Years of Naval Life.
