The Sixties

The Historical Society’s 2023 Special Exhibit

This year’s main exhibit is a reflection on the Sixties in Floyd County. We invite you not only to visit the Museum but also to share with us your recollections, memories, and artifacts from this period for posterity.

Covering topics like the integration of Floyd County’s public schools, the construction of Floyd County High School, and the Vietnam War, the exhibit uses original Floyd Press issues to tell the story of Floyd County during that turbulent time.

There is much information for those who lived during the Sixties and an overview for those born in the last 54 years: specifics range from the graduation of Daisy Penn from integrated Floyd High School in 1960 to the personal histories of the Floyd men killed in action in Vietnam.
